Successes in 2017
- 36 of 39 garden families in 2017 were from Woodlawn (19) or an adjoining (17) neighborhood—we are a neighborhood asset!
- Women were principle gardeners in more than half our plots
- Our gardeners provided more than 425 pounds of fresh produce to the food pantry at St. Andrew’s church on Alberta Street as part of the Produce for People program.
- Woodlawn School maintains a plot that is used during the school year
- The SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods, a program of Multnomah County) took over the school plot for the summer. The kids not only gardened and did art projects, but they did community service projects in the garden!
- Gardeners gave tours during the National Night Out, Sunday Parkways, and Movies in the Park.
- We conducted outreach this year and we currently have a waiting list for garden assignments.
On behalf of all the gardeners at WCG, we thank you
for your generous support of the garden!
How was your donation used?
- Portland Parks & Recreation provides the site and water for irrigation, but providing tools, hoses, recycling, composting, and trash disposal is the responsibility of the gardeners.
- Many of our gardeners can’t afford gardening tools, live in apartments, or depend on bus, bike, or feet for transportation. Thanks to WNA, we have a good supply of tools available for use.
- We invite you to visit the garden!
